Hot springs in the area :

Thermal SPAS and Springs in Tuscany

In many towns there are places where you can enjoy hot springs for free and these are usually in attractive natural outdoor areas. Many travellers prefer the more natural open experience of the flowing mineral waters, so there is a description added to those places where the springs are open to the public and accessible. The other places listed offer relaxing spas and other treatments using the waters from the springs directed into modern pools and resorts. In these places there is generally a fee.

Hot springs in the Siena area

Bagni San Filippo
San Filippo is a small town and the spring is very attractive. The water is warmest where it cascades down the huge white mineral rock, forming small pools of milky mineral waters.

Directions : The road through Bagni San Filippo is one way. There is parking along the side of the road. The entrance to the park where the hot springs are located is on your right, just before the town starts. Follow the path into the park, go on a small bridge over the river and turn left. Follow the path along the river until you see the huge white rock formation. This is where you go in. Remember, the lower pools are cold water. Climb up the rock to get to the hot pools.

Chianciano Terme (Siena) San Casciano dei Bagni Spas: There is a more modern hot spring outside town but just at the edge of town are the interesting old stone baths full of minerals and lovely and hot.

Directions : Find the tourist office on the main street of the old part of town, just up from the caffe and Ristorante Daniela. Just downhill from the tourist office there is a wide staircase that goes downhill through the town. Follow this staircase which leads to a gravel path all the way down the hill to the valley below (a 10 minute walk). When you read the gravel road at the bottom, turn right to get to the Bagno Grande.
