Tuscany farmhouse with swimming pool in Gafagnana near Lucca, Italy. Farmhouse Casa Rustica sits in the Tuscan hills near Lucca. This charming three bedroom Tuscan farmhouse sits on two levels and offers an ideal accommodation for groups of 5. The farmhouse has been recently renovated, though it retains the classical Tuscan features: terracotta floors, wood-beamed ceilings, stone archways and country antiques.
The living room and dining area are found downstairs in one great room. A fresco of the countryside and a romantic fireplace can be found in the living room, which also features satellite television.The fully-equipped kitchen, which features a 5 burner gas stove and marble counter tops, is also on this floor. The kitchen offers access to the covered patio, where a dining table with seating for 10 can be found. It is the perfect place to enjoy dinner al fresco while admiring the surrounding olive trees and panoramic countryside views of Tuscany. Downstairs there is also a single bedroom and a bathroom with a shower.
Upstairs features two bedrooms with matrimonial beds. One bedroom features a 4 poster wrought-iron bed romantically draped with sheer curtains. The other bedroom is simply decorated in country comfort and features a skylight. The upstairs bathroom features a jacuzzi bathtub. The large balcony offers an herb garden. There is also a table and chairs with a sun umbrella to watch the sunrise over the peaceful countryside of Tuscany. Stairs lead from the balcony to the large garden area. The large pool (9.5 x 4.5) sits a short distance from the farmhouse.
Farmhouse Casa Rustica sits only 50 meters from a typical Italian cafe, the perfect place for a morning coffee and an animated conversation with the locals. Nearby, the small town of Aquilea offers wonderful trattorias and pizzarias as well as various other shops. The farmhouse sits in an area of Tuscany known as Gafagnana; a wonderful, unspoilt area that has yet to be discovered by the masses of tourist. The area is rich in arts and crafts, where artisans still cling to the traditions of their heritage. The area features its own unique, and wonderful cuisine, with the ingredients purchased from the various fresh produce markets found throughout the area. Carrara, where the famous Italian marble is found, is also nearby. Lucca is only 30 minutes away. Historically Lucca had a large water supply, so many wealthy and affluent people built many stately villas which can be toured today. Tourists areas such as Florence are less than an hour away. The Italian coast is less than 40 minutes away.

Dear Elizabeth, Priya and Doreen, We had a great time in Italy, and managed to spend a few extra days in southern France to round off our holiday. Casa Rustica was extremely nice: the house has been restored to a very high standard and the gardens also reflect the care (and expense) which has been lavished on the building. One of the best things about the house is that it has retained its ability to stay cool in the summer. Our hosts were charming: They saw most days, was very helpful with information about local events, shops, markets etc. despite my inability to speak Italian, the whole of the village were on hand (outside the cafΓ©) when we needed anything. The pool was good β hidden amongst the olive trees β and once again, the hosts did a great job keeping it free from insects etc.. The only negative aspects were the mosquitoes which were silent but vicious, and some neighbours whose television appeared to be running (loud) 24/7.
