Villa Le Torre - , Arezzo Tuscany villa with private swimming pool set near the fascinating art town of Arezzo, Italy. Tuscany villa with private swimming pool set near the fascinating art town of Arezzo, Italy. Villa Le Torre was built in 1915 and its origin is clearly visible in the elegant art nouveau style of the construction and its surrounding garden. Access to the entirely enclosed property is afforded on the south through a large gate flanked by cypress trees; here a long tree-lined drive leads to the villa. A small gate on the eastern side of the property is exclusively for pedestrians. The villa and surrounding park are nestled on the peak of a small hill and their elevated location enables enjoying beautiful sunsets from the swimming-pool or from the terrace on the facade of the villa. The outdoor areas are very pleasant and spacious and the villa’s entrances open onto the swimming-pool (west), a pinewood with a large table for outdoor dining (north) and the garden (south) with a granite basin and aquatic plants, surmounted by a stone statue.
The swimming-pool is large and deep (measuring 13 x 16 yd. with a depth from 5.5 ft. to 13 ft.) and is served by two dressing-rooms with bathroom and shower and a large paved area, ideal for accommodating lots of guests. It marks the end of the property to the west and, given its location overlooking the surrounding countryside, offers a beautiful view of the underlying olive groves and the hills in the distance. The wall adjacent to the dressing-rooms is decorated with a large seascape made of glazed ceramic. To the north, stone steps and flower-beds with trees separate the pool from the tennis-court.
The pool looks out onto the lower court, bordered by the house of the bailiff who looks after the garden and by a large shed where big lemon-tree vases are kept during the cold season. The entire complex offers large and very pleasant areas for community life and, at the same time, secluded and intimate corners in the spacious garden or in the small loggia on the southern side.
Inside the villa, the ground floor houses the billiard room that looks out onto the swimming-pool and the family chapel, decorated with a glass polyptych made in the fifties. On this floor, we also find the cellar and utilities room. A wide wooden and wrought iron staircase, this too in the art nouveau style, connects the villa’s four floors. The center of the first floor that opens onto the pinewood and garden is occupied by a large hall connecting the dining area to the living-room. The dining area consists of an entrance hall, a modern and functional kitchen and a dining room with a large fireplace and the traditional copper cooking ware typical of Tuscan houses. A large glass door leads to the living-room, study, dressing-room, bathroom and entrance. The living-room is embellished by a large stone fireplace from the XII century. The second floor, like the first, develops around a large hall furnished with gilt pier-mirrors from the XVIII century and hosts the five main twin bedrooms. The green bedroom has a private dressing-room and bathroom with direct access from the room, while the others are served by a shared dressing-room and bathroom on the same floor. On the third floor, two more twin bedrooms with shared bathroom that look out onto yet another access room and another ramp of stairs leading to the tower that offers a spectacular view over the surrounding countryside.
The villa is located in a small outlying village of the city of Arezzo called Patrignone that is only a ten-minute walk away. In town, there is a grocer’s and a bar. The location is particularly nice because as it lies across the Valdarno and Casentino territories, sites of great historic and landscape interest are within easy reach. By way of example: Sansepolcro, home of Piero della Francesca, is 20 miles away, Cortona 20 mi., the ancient monasteries of La Verna and Camaldoli 26 mi., Florence and Siena 40 mi. Arezzo, only 6 miles away, offers many artistic and cultural attractions such as the fresco cycle painted by Piero della Francesca in the church of San Francesco, the medieval Piazza Grande and the Basilica della Pieve. Interesting possibilities for shopping are offered by the many shops and boutiques and by the Prada and Gucci outlet stores, located in Valdarno, about 20 miles away.
