Tourist's Tax",starts from March 1st, 2012 and it will be charged to people that will rent houses / apartments / bedrooms / etc... in almost all Tuscany.

What is the tourist's tax? The municipality of Montaione, where you can find our cottages, as well as the most important Tuscan towns (Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, etc...) and the villages of the Empolese-Valdelsa area (Montaione, Montespertoli, Castelfiorentino, Certaldo, Gambassi Terme, Empoli, Fucecchio, Cerreto Guidi, Vinci, Capraia-Limite and Montelupo) have decided to tax the visitors that spend the night in a tourist accommodation from the 1st March 2012 onwards. This money will be used to improve the tourist services of the area. The tax depends on the type of the structure. For our houses it must be paid 1 euro per person each night for the first 6 nights, then it is free. Children under 14 don't pay anything.

The tax must be paid, in cash, at our reception on the arrival.

Montaione is in an ideal place for those wishing to visit Tuscany. From there one can quickly reach Florence, Pisa and San Gimignano. The town of Montaione itself, with medieval traces and plan, is well worth a visit. Noteworthy are the church of San Regolo, where inside there is the painting Madonna del Buon Consiglio - from 13th Century by a scholar of Cimabue, the Praetorian Palace, which houses the Museum of Natural History and, just outside the town, the chapel of Santissima Annunziata with its remarkable 17th Century fresco.

Sarah,

Not only the memories of our trip are still fresh in my mind, but there is not a day when either one of us (and on most days, both of us) say the mantra: We want to go back to Tuscany, we miss Italy, I wish we were there right now, these tomatoes are nothing like we had at Villa Leo, etc. We LOVED our stay at Villa Leo, it was perfect in every regard. It's very conveniently located if you want to take day trips all over Tuscany, like we did: 1hr from Pisa, Lucca, Florence, even less to Valterra and San Gemignano, 2 hrs to Montepulciano (a must) and Pienza, 2hrs to Cinque Terre (yes, we ventured even as far as the coast!!!) I don't want to choose particular pictures; It was very clean and had everything that we needed. There were 4 of us there - 2 couples - and it provided just enough space for everyone to feel comfortable: 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Storage was very adequate, even with 2 huge suitcases, I was able to put everything conveniently inside. Linens and towels were changed every week even without us asking for it. When we arrived, the food that I asked for was waiting for us as well as a nice welcoming gift - a bottle of local wine that was superb. Moreover, we were invited to use the fruits and vegetables growing in abundance around the villa and we took full advantage of this generous offer not only to save a little, but because everything - tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, figs, grapes, even pumpkin - tasted so sweet that we simply refuse to buy our produce at a local supermarket anymore! The pictures of the pool on the site do not do it justice: it's modern and ultra-clean. The property itself, the grounds, the farm - everything is kept in pristine condition. The owners are very sweet. They even invited us to an hour-long concert (with delicious appetizers )- one of the owners, played guitar and sung songs in Italian and English, which was just lovely and quite unexpected. A very nice supermarket and a really good restaurant are within 7 min walk each. I wish the directions to find a place were a little bit more straightforward, on the night of our arrival, even with a GPS, it was not very easy to find. I am thinking of anything I wished were better and I cannot find anything, except for one small detail. Maybe it's a cultural difference between Americans and Europeans, but our pillows were uncomfortably thin. I asked for 2 more and got them the same day, they were new and clean, but so thin that it felt like trying to pile handkerchiefs in order to sleep more comfortably. Other than that, there is nothing to complain about. We were very happy with our choice.

As to the first-time travelers to Italy, I have only one thing to say: do not put it off any longer, give yourself adequate time to see Italy, do NOT try to see the entire country at one go, come back as often as you can (it was our 4th trip to beautiful Italy and I see many more in our future if we are lucky), Italy is meant to be enjoyed slowly, with frequent breaks for coffee and gelato. To me, that's the best place in the world to have an amazing vacation - it has everything; culture, food, sights, nature, and don't get me started on their shoes and jewelry:) The craftsmanship and amazing attention to detail is evidenced in everything - from the house number to the way they arrange gelato in your cup.

We are immensely grateful for your help in finding us a perfect affordable place to stay while exploring unforgettable Tuscany and for making it easy and pleasant.

Sincerely,

Mark Kharkover and Maria Kron
